ABSTRACT
Individual specialized cells are the fundamental units of function for any organ or tissue and, as a collective body, represent the organism, whether yeast or human. Fabrication of artificial cells with functional properties and system-wide compatibility equal to that of any particular differentiated cell would represents a major goal for tissue engineering.1
