Wireless sensor networks are an emerging technology, poised for rapid market growth. The combination of multiple user applications, the development of communication protocols for self-organizing ad hoc networks, high levels of product integration, and standardization is expected to lead to high manufacturing volumes and their associated economies of scale. It truly is an exciting time for the wireless industry, which has suffered lately due to the maturity of its existing markets.
