ABSTRACT

Modern Internet technologies abstracted away the concept of the real world. Web users have the illusion of one information storage, which is available for them anywhere in the world. Meanwhile, with rapid proliferation of wireless Internet, information about physical location of network devices cannot be disregarded anymore. In mobile commerce and Web applications over wireless Internet, location is crucial in presenting pertinent information and services to the customer. In this chapter, we introduce the concept of Location-Based Computing (LBC). LBC infrastructure comprises a distributed mobile computing environment where each mobile device is location-aware and wirelessly linked.
