ABSTRACT

The process of improving information assets is a negative one. That is, it is a process of monitoring the enterprise, looking for situations where information assets are depreciated, and then taking steps to enhance the information’s value. The noted architect Christopher Alexander wrote:

We can tip the balance and increase information’s value by “neutralizing the incongruities” or by creating new and useful associations among objects of information. Visualize this as a teeter-totter that brings things into balance by removing the weight of poor practices and applying creative pressure to elevate information’s value (see Exhibit 1).
