ABSTRACT
In this chapter we first define notation, then review a number of important results in real analysis and linear algebra of which use will be made in later chapters. Most readers will be familiar with the material, but in a number of cases it will be important to establish which of several commonly used conventions will be used. It will also prove convenient from time to time to have a reference close at hand. This may be especially true of the section on spectral decomposition.
