ABSTRACT

The water molds or oomycetes occur worldwide and can be found in diverse ecosystems including estuaries, lakes, oceans, rivers, and streams. Taxa within the group, however, can also occur in agricultural fields and in forest habitats growing as saprophytes or parasites. Because of the diversity of oomycetes and their occurrence in many different environments, several representative experiments have been included in this chapter to enable students to learn more about methods to study this unique group.
