ABSTRACT

Orthodontic treatment aims at obtaining the best possible occlusion, a harmonious bone structure, whilst guaranteeing a pleasant aesthetic effect, and safeguarding the neuromuscular and articular function as well as the stability of the results in time. Therefore, orthodontic treatment does not end with the straightening of teeth after wearing a device, but its objective is to control, guide and correct the dento-facial structure during growth, and/or harmonize it at growth termination in the adult, in order to obtain a good occlusal, functional and aesthetic balance (Nanda, 1997; Proffit, 2000).
