ABSTRACT

When the oral function of a person is restored by means of implant-supported oral prostheses different factors must be taken into account for an optimal placement of the oral implants. During pre-surgical planning the restorative dentist and/or the surgeon will determine the position and number of implants that have to be installed, based on the following factors:

• quality and quantity of the host bone; • anatomical constraints, as mandibular canal or sinuses; • aesthetics; • biomechanical factors.
