ABSTRACT

The collateral ligaments of the knee are very strong structures lying laterally on each side of the knee joint (Figure 23.1). Strain of these ligaments is usually associated with injury. Signs are localised pain at the insertion of the ligament, and pain which is aggravated by stressing the joint medially or laterally. Management is rest, support to the joint and if necessary a steroid injection to the point of maximal tenderness.
