ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In this work monitoring of 222Rn was carried out in different rooms of domestic dwellings located in Opole (south-western Poland). Passive detectors (LR-115 type II films; Kodak, Pathe) were used in the survey. The detectors were placed in kitchens, bathrooms, cellars and living rooms and remained there from the end of November to the end of February 2008. The results showed that in all of the rooms examined the 222Rn activity slightly exceeded 135 Bq/m3. This value is lower than the European Commission recommendations for existing buildings. No significant differences in 222Rn activity in the investigated rooms was found, except in kitchens and bathrooms where activities were somewhat different.
