ABSTRACT

Based on size distributions, Beddingfield and McClintock (2000) suggested that L. variegatus is fast growing and short lived, reaching a maximum size in 3-4 years.

This type of rapid development and early sexual maturation make L. variegatus a good candidate for commercial and laboratory use (Watts et al. 2007). Although there is no current commercial fishery for L. variegatus, further work quantifying its life history is important for potential management purposes.
