ABSTRACT
Child abuse was described in 1946 by Caffey and in The Battered Child by Henry Kempe in 1962. Since that time, it has been increasingly recognised in various forms as a cause of acute injury, permanent damage, disability and even death. Any of these may present to an Emergency Department.
