ABSTRACT

This type of hysteroscope is the one most commonly used for operative hysteroscopy but in its simplest form it may be used only for diagnostic hysteroscopy. The rigid hysteroscope system is comprised of a telescope that is not used by itself and therefore requires an outer sheath for instilling the distension media. The conventional hysteroscopic sheath attaches to a matched 3-4 mm telescope. Simple diagnostic sheaths have only an inflow port to permit the distension media to be infused (Figure 1).
