ABSTRACT

The integration of human factors thinking in business and industry is vital to the success of today’s leading companies. It has become clear that best practice standards form a valuable tool for organisations to demonstrate commitment to better behaviours. The UK has a strong opportunity to show leadership in this area and to shape the form and content of such guidance. Integrating human factors expertise into the standards-making process, both in terms of recognising new issues that might be addressed in this way and in supporting committees already working in established fields, is an important first step.
