ABSTRACT
The paper describes a new swelling test designed to take into account conditions related to environmental conditions and chemical composition of groundwater, which were no represented in swelling tests developed before. Some samples from the east margin of the Tertiary Lower Ebro Basin were tested in varying conditions and detailed geological characterizations of samples before and after tests were also carried out.
