ABSTRACT

The number of deepwater geotechnical site investigations required each year continues to increase. The safety, effectiveness and economic feasibility of conventional “tried and tested” sampling and in-situ testing techniques, originally designed for deployment in comparatively shallow waters, has become questionable in harsher and deeper water environments. This needs to be quantified in terms of cost, productivity and safety.
