ABSTRACT
The Soma coal basin is one of the largest economic coal basins in western Turkey. The different investigators have studied on the geology of this basin (Brinkmann et al., 1970; Nebert, 1978; Karayigit and Whateley, 1997; Inci, 1998). Nebert (1978) well described the stratigraphy of the Soma basin and generally the area stratigraphy was summarized by the other authors from Nebert (1978). The geological map and the stratigraphic sequence of the Soma basin is given in Figure 1.
