ABSTRACT

We find both the general concepts and uses ofNDE not only in industry but in our everyday lives. For example, imagine you're at the fruit counter at the local market. You glance over the selection of melons, pick one, and look it over for flaws-that's visual NDE. Then you test the melon's ripeness by tapping the surface and listening for the hollow response-that's acoustic NDE. Finally, depending on the response to these tests relative to your preset NDE criteria (Does the melon look OK? Is it ripe enough?), you either look for another melon, or accept the product and head to the checkout counter.
