ABSTRACT

Although ‘complementary’ or natural medications have been used for

centuries (Schulz et al, 2001), their popularity has increased dramatically

over the past decade (Eisenberg et al, 1993; Krippner, 1995; Whitmore

and Leake, 1996; Fisher, 1997), with up to 25% of people in the US using

some type of alternative treatment (NIHOAM, 1997a).
