ABSTRACT
Algae are present in all lakes and are an essential component in the lake’s food web. The growth of algal populations is stimulated by nutrients, sunlight, and temperature while their numbers are kept in check by grazing zooplankton, a lack of nutrients, or simply settling out of the water column.
