ABSTRACT

References Cryotherapy (cryosurgery) is the standard therapy for viral warts that are resistant to over-the-counter topical agents, or for large warts where it is anticipated that home therapy will be ineffective. Liquid nitrogen is the substance most frequently employed for cryotherapy of the skin. We limit out discussion of cryotherapy to liquid nitrogen, which is a safe, simple and inexpensive method of wart treatment. Cryotherapy produces minimal scarring and can be performed in both the hospital and the surgery setting. In this chapter, the use of liquid nitrogen cryotherapy for treatment of warts is reviewed.
