ABSTRACT

Preoperative preparation Cystourethroscopy can be performed under general anesthesia or in an outpatient setting with topical or local anesthesia. Topical agents, such as 2% Xylocaine (lidocaine), gel help relieve discomfort but may cause reddening of the urethra, making it difficult to assess the degree of inflammation. The choice of irrigation fluid is made based on the type of cystoscopic procedure to be carried out. For simple diagnostic cystoscopy, 1 L of water or saline is usually sufficient. Electrically conductive fluid (normal saline) cannot be used if endoscopic fulguration is necessary.
