ABSTRACT
A. Salivary glands are ectodermal in origin and begin as solid ingrowths from the oral epithelium.
B. Salivary glands have two types of secretory cells (serous andmucous) that are arranged into acini. These acini drain through a series of ducts: intercalated ducts, then into striated ducts, and ending in excretory ducts.
