ABSTRACT
Themajority of wounds should show clinically apparent signs of healing within 2-4 weeks if no underlying problems exist. Most factors causing delayed healing can be eliminated with once-a-day hands-on care of the patient by the surgeon. Chronic wounds are often neglected under a dressing by nurses and surgeons, and this problem needs to be recognized. Wound debridement is essential to good outcomes.
