ABSTRACT

Management of diabetes by the patient involves coping with normal everyday activities. Patients need advice on keeping a check on their diabetic control, on what to do about legal matters, such as driving and employment, about life insurance, travel and holidays, and what to do if they develop a cold or a stomach upset. Sick day rules are covered in Chapter 10 (page 122); this chapter considers all these other aspects of diabetes management from both the patient and health care professional viewpoints.
