ABSTRACT
It is universally recognized that the need for education of patients about diabetes and its management is paramount. One of the most significant advances in diabetes care has been the recognition that the most important person in the diabetes care team is the patient, who needs to be empowered to take responsibility for his/her own health care rather than relying on others. Such empowerment involves the provision of education matched to the patient’s abilities and capacity to learn.
