ABSTRACT

Haematological malignancies are a range of disorders characterized by malignant proliferation of blood cells. Most affect the white blood cells (WBCs): either lymphoid cells (e.g. lymphocytes) or myeloid cells (e.g. neutrophils). If this process occurs in the bone marrow, it is called leukaemia; if it occurs in the reticuloendothelial system (lymphatics, lymph nodes and spleen), it is termed lymphoma.
