ABSTRACT

Infection control is of prime importance in clinical practice. It is essential to the safety of patients, families and staff. Every member of staff must receive training in all aspects of infection control, including decontamination of instruments and equipment, and a policy must be adhered to at all times. All staff must be immunized against hepatitis B and a record of their hepatitis B seroconversion held by the employer. For those who do not seroconvert, or cannot be immunized, medical advice and counselling should be given. In these cases it may be necessary to restrict their clinical activities.
