ABSTRACT
The VISIONS project was a collective effort involving scientists, decisionmakers and stakeholders from a variety of sectors and societal bodies. The project partners worked with these groups. In this chapter, the approaches adopted in developing scenarios and integrated visions (presented in Chapters 4 and 5, respectively) are described and the researchers’ motivations explained. After a general overview, more detailed discussions of the development of the regional and European scenarios will be provided. This is followed by a description of the integration of scenarios into visions, which was a key methodological challenge in the project. The endeavour resulted in an integration method that can be used in multi-scale integrated assessments. The chapter concludes by detailing this innovative approach to scenario analysis.
