ABSTRACT

The clinical response of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) to treatment with levodopa changes over time from an excellent effect at the initial stages of the disease, the “honeymoon period”, to a complicated response after several years of disease progression. While almost all patients present a sustained clinical benefit from levodopa at the beginning of the disease, only 25% continue to show a smooth response after 5 years of treatment (1) (Table 1).
