ABSTRACT
The laparoscopic application to general surgical procedures began in earnest in the latter part of the 1980s. Subsequent to that time there has been an explosion of interest and training in the various aspects of minimal-access surgery for general surgeons. At the outset of this proliferation of technology, the early innovators and early adopters identified the risks and complications associated with each procedure.
