ABSTRACT
The geology is of fundamental importance to an understanding of the country’s present-day environment and economic development. This is most readily understood in terms of the presence of vast oil fields in the sedimentary rocks of the Gulf
coast region, but geology also has a major influence on the distribution of groundwater, the presence of hazards, and the distribution of landforms and soils in the Kingdom.
