The rise of resilience in large metropolitan areas: Progress and hold backs in the Parisian experience

ABSTRACT: The analysis of flood risk and its management in Paris and its region (Ile-de-France) is a key of interpretation for understanding the evolution of management policies in the metropolitan areas. This chapter presents an historical approach of the flood risk management in Paris since the 19th century. It also gives an outlook on current management. Furthermore, we take a critical view of the practical implementation of resilience.
