ABSTRACT

To date, a lot of the focus on Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation has simply been about design firms learning how parametric 3D modeling software works.

The mainstream firms have been learning about the capabilities of its chosen BIM authoring tool, gauging the benefits to the firm and achieving a level of confidence in an isolated way. If information is exchanged with other firms, it is in a single direction. Cutting edge firms have been mastering the software and practicing working in a collaborative way where information is exchanged in two directions. I have found the “Towards Integration” work by Gutteridge and the Australian Institute of Architects extremely useful when considering where we are on that pathway.
