ABSTRACT

Sturtivant et al. (1994) reviewed information on porpoise echolocation. Evans (1973) suggested that sonar in porpoises is used mainly for target detection rather than target classification owing to its monochromatic nature; Amundin et al. (1988) also noted that porpoise clicks show a narrow-band width. Hatakeyama & Soeda (1990) recorded the clicks to be mainly in the range 125-140kHz.
