Bipolar affective disorder

Bipolar disorder usually begins in early

adulthood and affects approximately 1% of

the population. The cause of the disorder is

largely unknown although hereditary factors

play an important part, and major life events

often precede the onset of the first episode of

the disorder, and less obviously subsequent

episodes.
