ABSTRACT

The incidence of malignant mesothelioma continues to increase globally, and for many countries the highest incidence has not yet been reached. Malignant mesothelioma is in the vast majority of cases an incurable tumor that generally occurs following heavy occupational exposure to asbestos. Data published in the last year have also suggested that low-dose exposure to asbestos at home or in the general environment carries a measurable risk of malignant pleural mesothelioma.1
