ABSTRACT
In this chapter we review the clinical symptoms of major depression (major depressive disorder) and the main anxiety disorders, focusing on their overlap as well as on important distinctions between them. In particular, we consider issues of differential diagnosis and clinical assessment. In addition, we briefly review studies of epidemiology, demographics and clinical course. In each section, we begin by outlining clinical features and go on to consider comorbidity.
