ABSTRACT
Nearly 70 years ago cardamom cultivation spread from India to Guatemala. But, India continued to be the largest producer until 1979-80. The situation has since been changed and Guatemala emerged as world’s leading cardamom producer and supplier. While Indian production in the last two decades has shown a fluctuating trend, Guatemala’s production has been on steady increase except in the last two years. The production of cardamom in India and Guatemala, for 12 years from 1990-2002, is given in Table 13.1 (See also Chapter 11).
