Inducible gene expression strategies in gene therapy

GENERAL APPROACHES Conditional expression of therapeutic genes can be accomplished by a number of strategies. As depicted in Figure 2.1, multiple processes regulate gene expression. These processes affect gene transcription, RNA processing, translation and protein stability. Conceptually, any of these processes can be manipulated in therapeutic gene induction strategies. Combinations of strategies influencing more than one process may be beneficial.
