Metabolism and distribution of γ -hydroxybutyrate in the brain

Clinically, GHB has been used as an adjuvant to anesthesia (Laborit et al. 1960; Vickers 1969) and in the treatment of narcolepsy (Mamelak et al. 1986; Scrima et al. 1990). More recently it has been suggested that GHB may be useful in the treatment of opiate withdrawal syndrome (Gallimberti et al. 1993) and alcohol dependence (Gallimberti et al. 1992).
