ABSTRACT

Tea as a drink originated from the China Shennong period, around 4000-5000 years ago. Originally, tea was used as a medicine for various ills. It was recorded that tea drinking in ancient China was popular in the 5th century AD and tea production has been developed rapidly since the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD) and accepted as a beverage. In the year of 780 AD, there was the first authentic account of tea. This famous book, Cha Ching (Tea Classic) was written by Lu Yu in which described the morphology of tea plant, tea drinking and tea manufacture.
