ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended to broadly outline the historico-political dimensions which impinged upon the formation of a service for workplace health improvement. It also assesses the roles and functions of services to maintain health as well as the legal requirements and their implications for managers and employees. The chapter ends with discussion on more recent initiatives on the workplace health movement at the approach of the millennium.
