ABSTRACT

In the cafeteria of the Green Forest Medical Center*, a group of employees takes a break. Nurse Ivy commented to hospital tech., Suzie Aiken, “My neck is so stiff, 1 don’t think I can finish my 14 hour shift.” “Oh Yeah?” said Suzy, “I just helped haul up a 500 lb. patient off the floor. She was too big for any of our lifts. I don’t think I’ll be able to walk upright anytime soon.” Marge Broomswift, one of the hospital’s housekeepers shakes her head saying, “I’ve got to move those beds with around without help. Most of the wheels on the beds are broken. At least nurses move beds together. They expect housekeepers to move them alone. Besides, I’ve changed so many beds today, I’ve lost count. Now, I can’t even feel, let alone use, my wrists.”
