Imprinted polymers as tailor-made stationary

Molecular imprinting has established itself as one of the most attractive and versatile methods for creating synthetic materials with specific molecular recognition properties. This is largely because molecular imprinting approaches can be readily applied to a broad spectrum of analytes, yielding chemically and physically robust materials that display strong and selective affinities for the analytes under investigation. Imprinted materials are thus ideally suited for numerous applications where molecular recognition events are of prime importance; they are currently attracting the greatest attention in the affinity separation area, where their utility in chromatographic applications, solidphase extraction and membrane separations, inter alia, is being vigorously explored.
