ABSTRACT

Unless the quality of given geodata is well known, the data should not be used for any application. Certain types of errors in a database can be detected and sometimes eliminated automatically by programs. These are mainly violations of rules of integrity and consistency of the data concerning topology, attributes, and relationships between objects (Guptill and Morrison, 1995; Joos, 1999). To detect a second kind of error concerning accuracy, completeness, and correctness checking can only be done by comparing the data with either analogue or digital data of higher quality or with the original data sources (Caspary and Joos, 1998). Since this comparison requires usually visual searching for differences, it is a very laborious and expensive task (Claussen, 1996).
