ABSTRACT

Description: Teriparatide is a recombinant 4,117.8-Da polypeptide identical in amino acid sequence to the N-terminal residues 1-34 of endogenous human parathyroid hormone. Native parathyroid hormone is an 84-amino acid polypeptide that stimulated bone formation by directly affecting bone-forming cells (osteoblasts). Forteo, produced in engineered Escherichia coli, induces this same effect. The product is supplied as a sterile solution at a strength of 250 µg active/ml. It is packaged as a 3-ml glass cartridge, preassembled into a disposable pen device for daily subcutaneous administration.
