ABSTRACT
It is estimated that in the USA in 1993 there were 152,000 new cases of colorectal cancer comprising 13% of new cancers, with 57,000 deaths accounting for 11% of all cancer deaths. Colorectal cancer is now the commonest internal malignancy affecting Australians, and the second most common cause of cancer death after lung overall, and breast in women.
