ABSTRACT
Since last reviewed in detail by us in 1992, more than 250 studies of the BB rat have appeared. This literature testifies to the continuing scientific interest in this animal as a model of human Type 1 diabetes mellitus, even among proponents of the NOD mouse (Atkinson and Leiter, 1999).
