ABSTRACT
Clinical rubella was first described in Germany by De Bergen in 1752 and Orlow in 1758. Considered sort of a ‘bastard measles’, it was given several names, the principal ones being Rotheln, rubeola, and German measles. The latter name was engendered by the early interest of these German investigators.
